Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Lothar H. Wieler is spokesperson for the Digital Health cluster and the head of Digital Global Public Health at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam.
After completing his studies in veterinary medicine and earning his Ph.D. from the Free University (FU) Berlin and Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Lothar H. Wieler obtained his habilitation at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. In 1998, he accepted a professorship at FU Berlin and served as the Managing Director of the Institute of Microbiology and Animal Diseases in the Department of Veterinary Medicine. From 2015 to 2023, he served as the President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) before transitioning to the Hasso Plattner Institute. Mr. Wieler is a scientific author of numerous prestigious publications, a member of the Leopoldina, and actively participates in various professional committees. He has received multiple awards for his contributions.
