GWQ and partners take the next steps toward more sustainable generic drug production

We are pleased to announce that our long-standing partner, GWQ ServicePlus AG (GWQ), just launched their second generics tender, which incorporates sustainability criteria.

  • The tender is being carried out in collaboration with 35 health insurances. A prerequisite for participation is again the possession of one of the recognized environmental certificates, EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) or DIN ISO 14001. Both certifications aim to reduce the environmental impact of companies.
  • The first tender round, which also considered sustainability criteria and was successfully concluded in July 2024, was a great success. Of the eight tendered lots for environmentally intensive active ingredients and active ingredient combinations, seven were awarded.
  • Based on the positive experience with the first tender, the number of lots has now doubled to 16 compared to the initial round. The tendered active ingredients include, among others, the antidepressant Venlafaxine, the antidiabetic Glibenclamide, and the antiepileptic Carbamazepine.

We congratulate GWQ and its partners on this achievement, which demonstrates that sustainable solutions in the pharmaceutical sector are possible and that awareness within the industry is growing. More information can be found in the corresponding press release.
